Now entering the real world. This little site was created as a companion to a costume presented in 2025.
The following is the speech given by my character as an introduction and explains the full context:
About the gold lion emblems, they are 3D resin printed and painted using an airbrush with about 20 layers of Createx Wicked Colors Metallic Bronze W362 with an extra drop of red. Then I added about 5 layers of clear, 5 more W362, 5 layers of clear then 5 layers of W362 mixed with some clear and finally topped with several layers of Createx 4052 Mattle UVLS Clear.
Frankly, the result looks even better in the sun as the clear layers channel light throughout the emblem.
Createx paints get my recommendation and I have received good service from Spray Gunner!
The Schutt Vengance facemask began with a look that contains visual elements of a Roman helmet, in particular the part that goes over the cheeks. The final effect was achieved by cutting out the middle bars and adding a Roman style noseguard as well as the rings. The hardest part is getting the rubber coating off! (Solvents did not work; wire brush on my drill did well.) The mask was painted with the same paint as the lion head emblems but without adding the drop of red. The red plume, emblems and facemask were attached to a "Riddellvs" helmet chosen for a smoother shell appearance than the Schutt (plus the Riddell fit better and was more comfortable.)
Since they didn't have metal snaps and biothane in 150 AD, a leather chin strap was created and fitted with brass Loxx fasteners. I created some stickers and used my vinyl sign cutter for the final details.
The Loxx fasteners were an important part of this costume as their brass and antique brass has the right look. They are also unique and secure fasteners that are easy to use: Just pull up the top button to release. If you don't pull up, they're not going anywhere. They were used on the helmet, to secure the metal armor to the football shoulder pads, on the belt and on the leg armor (greaves). Highly recommended.
The helmet warning sticker exemplifies the Roman gladiator spirit. And yes, there was not "W" back then but it took a few people a moment to get the hang of reading "V" as "U" or "W", so I left it to make it easier to get started and just converted the "U"'s and one "W".
So how did Quintus Audax arrive in 2025 ?
It all started when Quintus captured The Doctor and his magic blue box called the T.A.R.D.I.S., earning him great respect throughout the Roman Empire.
Subsequently, The Doctor was sentenced to hard labor in Mesopotamia while the T.A.R.D.I.S. was confiscated and used for the glory and expansion of the Roman Empire.
As a part of his high standing among gladiators, he is responsible for securing and operating the T.A.R.D.I.S. and keeps the key with him at all times.
A gladiators spear is one that is chosen with care. Solid, quality construction is a must. The spear Quintus prefers and relies upon is made in Britainnia.
